30KM ‘WILDERBEAST’

COURSE

The 30km ‘Wilderbeast’ is a great middle distance option for anyone who might not be ready to step up to the full marathon distance. If you have a few road or trail half marathons under your belt then this is the course for you!

With over 1,300m of elevation gain, this race will still test your endurance on the many climbs and descents along the way but you will be rewarded with some stunning scenery and the sound of native birdsong as you journey your way through Island Hills Station.

Starting next to the historic Island Hills woolshed, the course follows a 4WD farm track for the first three kilometres before crossing the Glencoe River and joining singletrack that weaves its way through the station. There are many highlights along the way including the historic Bush Hut and the stunning native bush within the Mandamus Preservation Reserve. On a clear day, you will also be treated to views of Mt Skedaddle (1704m), the highest point on the property.

The course features a combination of single track, 4WD tracks and farmland. With an abundance of native bush, you will hopefully encounter several of the local residents including the Bell Bird (korimako), Fantail (piwakawaka), Tom Tit (ngirungiru) and possibly the Parakeet (kakariki)!
