42KM ‘TWO TUNNER’

COURSE

The 42km ‘Two Tunner’ is undoubtedly a challenging trail run but nonetheless an achievable feat for runners of all abilities. With over 2,000m of elevation gain, this race will test your endurance on the many climbs and descents along the way but you will be rewarded with some stunning scenery and the sound of native birdsong as you journey your way through Island Hills Station. If you’re looking for an epic adventure then this is the course for you!

Starting next to the historic Island Hills woolshed, the course sidles the Dove River before joining singletrack that weaves its way through the station. Incorporating the full Island Hills Walking Track, there are many highlights along the way including Viagra Falls, Grassy Knolls and the historic Valley Camp and Bush Huts. On a clear day, you will also be treated to views of Mt Skedaddle (1704m), the highest point on the property.

The beauty of this course is that it comprises almost entirely of single track with several short sections of 4WD farm track. With an abundance of native bush, you will hopefully encounter several of the local residents including the Bell Bird (korimako), Fantail (piwakawaka), Tom Tit (ngirungiru) and possibly the Parakeet (kakariki)!
